How cPanel email mailboxes work
Some WP Performance Hosting plans include cPanel email mailboxes.
A cPanel email mailbox lets you create and use email addresses on your domain, such as:
Mailbox availability, mailbox limits and storage limits depend on the hosting plan you have purchased.
What is a cPanel email mailbox?
A cPanel email mailbox is an email account connected to your domain and hosting service.
For example, if your domain is:
example.com
you may be able to create email addresses such as:
or:
These mailboxes are hosted through the cPanel hosting environment connected to your service.
What email is included with my hosting plan?
Email mailbox allowances depend on the hosting plan selected.
Some plans include a set number of cPanel email mailboxes. Other plans may have different limits or may require an add-on if you need more mailboxes.
Check your hosting plan details or client portal service information to confirm what is included.
What is an Extra Email Mailbox?
An Extra Email Mailbox is an add-on that may be available when your hosting plan includes email but you need more mailboxes than the plan allowance provides.
For example, if your plan includes a limited number of mailboxes and you need another email address for a staff member, department or role, an Extra Email Mailbox may be added where available.
Extra Email Mailboxes are not unlimited email hosting. They remain subject to service limits, storage limits, fair use and the hosting plan rules.
How do I access email?
Depending on your setup, email may be accessed through:
-
Webmail
-
Desktop email software
-
Mobile email apps
-
Mail apps such as Outlook, Apple Mail or Gmail app
The exact setup details depend on your mailbox, domain and email configuration.
You may need settings such as:
-
Email address
-
Mailbox password
-
Incoming mail server
-
Outgoing mail server
-
IMAP or POP settings
-
SMTP settings
-
Port numbers
-
SSL settings
Use the email settings provided through cPanel, your service details or support instructions.
What is webmail?
Webmail lets you access your email through a web browser without setting up an email app.
This can be useful for checking whether a mailbox is working before connecting it to Outlook, Apple Mail, Gmail app or a phone.
Webmail access details may be provided with your hosting or email setup information.
Email DNS records
For cPanel email to work correctly, your domain may need the correct email DNS records.
These may include:
-
MX records
-
SPF records
-
DKIM records
-
DMARC records
-
Mail-related CNAME records
Incorrect email DNS records can cause sending, receiving or deliverability problems.
If your domain uses external DNS, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or another email provider, do not change email DNS records unless you are sure those records are no longer needed.
Be careful when changing email providers
Changing email providers or email DNS records can interrupt email service.
Before changing email settings, check whether your domain currently uses:
-
cPanel email
-
Google Workspace
-
Microsoft 365
-
Zoho Mail
-
Another external email provider
-
Email forwarding
-
Third-party spam filtering
-
A previous hosting provider’s email service
Removing or replacing email DNS records incorrectly can stop email from sending or receiving.
Manual Email Setup
Manual Email Setup may be available if you need hands-on help with mailbox setup or hosting-side email DNS configuration.
Manual Email Setup may cover tasks such as:
-
Creating cPanel email mailboxes
-
Setting mailbox details
-
Checking required email DNS records
-
Helping configure hosting-side email settings
-
Confirming basic mailbox access details
Manual Email Setup does not include everything related to email.
Unless separately agreed, Manual Email Setup does not include:
-
Email migration
-
Moving old inbox history
-
Inbox cleanup
-
Device setup
-
Outlook setup
-
Apple Mail setup
-
Gmail app setup
-
Phone setup
-
Third-party workspace administration
-
Google Workspace administration
-
Microsoft 365 administration
Email migration is not included at launch
Email migration is not included as a standard launch service.
If you already have email with another provider, you are responsible for keeping access to that provider and managing any old inbox history unless a separate migration service is agreed later.
Do not cancel your old email provider until you are sure your new email setup is working and you no longer need access to old messages.
What support may ask for
If you need help with cPanel email, support may ask for:
-
Your domain name
-
The email address affected
-
Whether the issue is sending, receiving or both
-
Any error message you see
-
Whether you are using webmail or an email app
-
Whether the domain uses cPanel email, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or another provider
-
Whether DNS is managed through WP Performance Hosting or another provider
-
When the issue started
-
Any recent DNS or email changes
Providing these details helps support identify whether the issue is related to the mailbox, DNS records, email software, external provider or another service.
Existing customers should use the client portal
If you already have an active service, submit email questions through the client portal.
