How to point your domain to WP Performance Hosting

If you already own a domain name, you can connect it to your WP Performance Hosting service by updating the domain’s nameservers or DNS records.

The correct method depends on where your domain is registered, how your website is being hosted, and whether email is already connected to the domain.

Before you make DNS changes

Before changing any nameservers or DNS records, check whether your domain is currently used for:

  • Your website

  • Business email

  • Google Workspace

  • Microsoft 365

  • cPanel email

  • Third-party email services

  • External DNS services

  • CRM, marketing, booking or payment tools

  • Verification records for other platforms

Changing DNS without checking existing records can interrupt your website, email or connected services.

Option 1: Update your nameservers

The most common way to point a domain to WP Performance Hosting is to update the domain nameservers at your domain registrar.

Your registrar is the company where your domain was purchased or is currently managed.

To update nameservers:

  1. Log in to your domain registrar account.

  2. Find the domain you want to connect.

  3. Open the nameserver or DNS settings area.

  4. Replace the current nameservers with the nameservers supplied by WP Performance Hosting.

  5. Save the changes.

Use the nameservers provided in your hosting welcome email, onboarding message or support ticket.

Do not guess the nameservers. If you are unsure which nameservers to use, contact WP Performance Hosting before making changes.

Option 2: Update DNS records only

In some cases, you may keep DNS hosted with your current DNS provider and update only the records needed to point your website to WP Performance Hosting.

This may be useful if:

  • Your DNS is managed by another provider

  • Your email is already working elsewhere

  • You use Google Workspace or Microsoft 365

  • You use Cloudflare or another DNS platform

  • You do not want to move all DNS control

The records required may vary depending on your hosting setup.

Common DNS records may include:

  • A record

  • CNAME record

  • MX record

  • TXT records such as SPF, DKIM or DMARC

Only update the records that are required for your setup.

Be careful with email records

If your domain already has email set up, do not remove email-related DNS records unless you know they are no longer needed.

Email-related records may include:

  • MX records

  • SPF records

  • DKIM records

  • DMARC records

  • Autodiscover records

  • Mail-related CNAME records

Removing or changing these records incorrectly can stop email from sending or receiving.

If your hosting plan includes cPanel email and you want to use it, WP Performance Hosting may provide the required email DNS records.

Manual Email Setup may be required if you need hands-on help with mailbox or DNS configuration.

DNS changes can take time

After nameservers or DNS records are changed, the update may not appear everywhere immediately.

This delay is commonly called DNS propagation.

During this time:

  • Your website may work for some visitors but not others

  • Email may behave inconsistently

  • Some locations may still see the old hosting

  • SSL or website access may not appear correct immediately

DNS propagation can take time depending on the registrar, DNS provider, previous record settings and internet provider caching.

Do not cancel your old hosting too early

If you are moving an existing website, do not cancel your old hosting account until the website has been migrated, checked and confirmed as working on WP Performance Hosting.

Cancelling old hosting too early can cause:

  • Website downtime

  • Loss of files or backups

  • Email disruption

  • Migration delays

  • Missing access needed for troubleshooting

Wait until your website, domain and email setup have been confirmed before cancelling old services.

What information support may need

If you need help pointing your domain to WP Performance Hosting, include:

  • Your domain name

  • Where the domain is registered

  • Whether you want to change nameservers or only DNS records

  • Whether the domain currently has email attached

  • Whether you use Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or another email provider

  • Whether the website is being migrated from another host

  • Any DNS records or screenshots requested by support

Existing customers should use the client portal

If you already have an active service, submit domain and DNS questions through the client portal.

Client portal link:

https://client.wpperformancehosting.com/

Using the client portal keeps your request connected to your hosting service, domain details and support history.

Need help?

If you are unsure which DNS changes to make, contact WP Performance Hosting before changing anything.

DNS changes can affect your website and email, so it is better to confirm the correct setup first.
